In May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GPDR) went into effect. The GDPR laid the groundwork for future legislations followed shortly after by Brazil’s version, the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD). The GDPR took force in 2018. The LGPD went into action September 18, 2020 and has a grace period until August 1, 2021, when fines and regulatory action will begin.
