Laura’s Journey
I had always envisioned myself as an architect, but a suggestion from my boyfriend changed everything. He encouraged me to watch an online Java programming course by Professor Mehran Sahami for the Stanford Computer Science Department. From the very first lesson, I was hooked. As I continued learning, I realized that Java might not be my perfect fit, but by then, there was no turning back. I worked my way up to land my first job as a JavaScript developer, and I’m now in my ninth year working with ServiceNow. After exploring various areas, I decided to focus on SecOps five years ago.
A Day in Laura’s Life
Every day is a balancing act between work, family, and a little bit of me time.
Most days, a Technical Consultant’s schedule is a dynamic mix of meetings, preparation, and hands-on work that keeps projects moving forward. With ServiceNow evolving rapidly, there’s never a boring moment, it’s an ongoing cycle of learning, optimizing, and occasionally solving the classic ‘but it worked yesterday!’ mystery.
At the same time, being a parent adds a whole new dimension. Negotiating with a tiny human before I’ve had my first coffee? Check. Switching from debugging workflows to reading bedtime stories in record time? Also check. I’ve learned that balance isn’t about perfection, it’s about adaptability (and sometimes a little chaos).
